Various examples exist of this type of half-length depiction of the Descent from the Cross. The majority, which have very similar compositions and were painted at the end of the 15th century and throughout the 16th century, are considered copies of a lost original painted by the Brussels master Rogier van der Weyden. The Descent from the Cross in the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum used to be attributed to Colin De Coter since 1980. The purpose of the publication is to reconsider this attribution through a new iconographic and stylic study supported by technical data fournished by the recent restoration of the painting.en_US
