dc.description | Since 2009, the Royal Museums of Art and History (Brussels) have focused their research almost exclusively on the settlement area of the Upper Egyptian site of Elkab. During these excavations, intriguing new data regarding the origin, development, and organisation of this provincial town have come to light. This paper offers an overview of the different types of domestic storage installations that have been identified so far at the site and how their use developed over time. A large public grain storage facility also testifies to the presence of an organised economy under control of the local administration or central government. These structures provide an interesting glimpse on the domestic organisation of the Elkab settlement and its socioeconomic position within the settlement system of the early pharaonic state. | en_US |
