The assassination of Patrice Lumumba prompted an outcry of literary protestations in several Western European countries, in North America, in South American, in Central America, but also in Asian countries such as the Popular Republic of China and Indonesia. Many writers felt the irresistible urge to express themselves, each in their own language: Haitians in French, Brazilians in Portuguese, Cubans in Spanish and North Americans in English. This study focuses on poems from the American continent from 1961 to 1966. Within the ranks of the poets, some great figures of négritude are included, such as the Haitians Jean-Fernand Brierre, Bonnard Posy, Daniel Blérald, René Depestre and Langston Hughes from North America.
