Experimental data on NO, NO//2 and HNO//3 in the atmosphere are reviewed. The low abundance of nitric acid in the tropospheric gas phase is emphasized, as well as the high variability of NO//x in the low stratosphere and in the troposphere. Some model-predicted distributions of these odd-nitrogen molecules are presented. Areas of agreement and of disagreement between theory and experiment are indicated.
