This paper examines how the magnetic field rotation across the magnetopause influences the fine structure of the layer and its thickness. The situation is examined at noon, dawn, and dusk using a one‐dimensional kinetic Vlasov‐Maxwell model. The findings indicate that intrinsic physical properties of the Chapman‐Ferraro layer may play a role in creating a dawn‐dusk asymmetry in the magnetopause thickness.
