dc.description.abstract | This lecture presented the life and career of the Spanish-Belgian Baroque painter Miguel Manrique (ca. 1612-1647), an adventurous artist who worked between Belgium, Italy and Spain. Born in Luxembourg and trained in Antwerp, Manrique moved to Genoa at a young age, where he worked intensely under the name of Michele Fiammingo in the circle of Van Dyck and other Flemish painters. A probable pupil of Rubens, he is considered to have introduced Rubens' style to Andalusia and to be the most southerly representative of Flemish Baroque painting in Europe. | |
