International Conference "Court culture exchanges between the Iberian Peninsula and the Habsburg Netherlands (XVth – XVIth centuries)", Aranjuez, 25-27 October 2023Less known as a court artist than his colleagues Alonso Berruguete, Bartolomé Ordóñez, Jean Monet or his pupil Siloé, the Burgundian sculptor Felipe Bigarny (c. 1475-1542) worked in the service of Charles V and the Castilian court established in Burgos, taking part in some of the major artistic projects of the time, such as the royal chapel in Granada. Ennobled, and at the head of a vast workshop, Bigarny became a model of a successful, enterprising artist, who may have set the path for the more famous court artists of the generation to follow.
