    Description
This paper describes the verb tone system of Mwani as spoken on Ibo island, Mozambique. It shows that tone is not lexically distinctive with verbs. Instead one of three melodic patterns is assigned based on inflectional criteria. The melodic H tones interact with underlying H tones of subject prefixes and macro-stem initial prefixes (i.e., object prefixes or the distal marker -ka-) but not with other prefixal H tones.
