    Description
The current Pharmacie Davoine results from the transformation of a building located at 6 and 8 Charles Deliège Avenue in Binche. The building served as an inn before being divided into two shops in 1858. Today it is mostly known for its1910 ceramic advertising panels, which were restored in 2014. The study of the history of the panels reveals their importance in the context of similar works by the Maison Helman. Their theme, quality and dimensions are exceptional. From an iconographical perspective they comprise several styles, which result from different approaches to advertising. The conservation-restoration treatment started with a systematic study of the façade and a survey of the alterations. The treatment was carried out as follows: dismantling, verification of the adhesion of the mortar, consolidation of loose tiles, cleaning, consolidation and regluing, gluing of the broken tiles, filling of lacunae, reconstruction of broken tiles, refitting tiles, repointing and retouching. The reconstruction in ceramic of the missing tiles is done on the basis of a detailed study of the original tile, both the ceramic support and the decorative glazing. This study has led to improvements in the techniques used to make new tiles and to avoid numerous pitfalls related to shaping and glazing.
