The main objective of OSERIT is to develop a new integrated tool that is able to quickly provide relevant, scientific-based information to support the decision-making process of the best response strategy in case of marine oil pollution. The provided information is meant, among other things, to help the different Belgian governmental authorities involved in oil pollution response at sea to: Quickly evaluate the potentially oil impacted areas; Perform a Net Environmental Benefit Analysis (NEBA) for different possible strategies ; Decide whether chemical dispersants should be used or not; Quickly plan operational interventions to combat marine oil pollution ; Help identify likely polluters in case of oil illegally spilled at sea ; Continue to develop and refine the Belgian Intervention Plan for Pollution Response at Sea
