The African lycosid genus Amblyothele Simon is revised and its subfamily placemem clarified. A diag nosis is provided for the genus in relation to other genera in the subfamily Piratinae, The type species, Amblyothele albocincta Simo n, 1910 , is redescribed as is A. togona Roewer, 1960. Six new species, Amblyotbele atlanticasp. n. (♀), A. ecologica sp . n, (♀), A. hamatula sp. n, (♂), A. kivumba sp . n, (♂), A. latedissipata sp . n, (♂♀ ) and A. Iongipes sp . n. (♂♀) are described. Amblyotbelejaundea Roewer, 1960 is removed from the genus and transferred ro Pardosa. An illustrated key to the species is provided.
