We present the results of comparison between satellite-based GOME and ground-based SAOZ total O3 and NO2 column measurements at two station around Arctic Polar circle: Sodankyla (67° N, 27° E), Scandinavia and Zhigansk (67° N, 123° E), eastern Siberia in 1995-2002. Combined analysis of the data sets and comparison was performed with respect to the relevant parameters namely seasonal variation of the air mass factors, the presence of polar stratospheric clouds, diurnal variation of NO2 column and sun zenith angle dependence. Comparison reveals systematic seasonal-dependent features in the differences. Better agreement within the data sets was detected after taking in account the error in the GOME measurements at low sun and applying some corrections to the SAOZ retrievement algorithm.
