Book chapter on the aristocratic patronage of Italian and Spanish painters at the court of Madrid, by the minister Don Luis de Haro (1603-1661) and his son the Marquis of Heliche (1629-1687).
Haro succeeded his uncle Olivares as the court favourite to King Philip IV (1605-1665) until his death in 1661. Under his government, the court's theatrical lavishness was particularly brilliant, with contributions from the migrant artists Baccio del Bianco, Dionisio Mantuano and Francisco Rizi among others.
