    Description
The Triptych with Madonna and Child and Musician Angels, Saint Catherine and Saint Barbara of the Jerusalem Church in Bruges. Interdisciplinary Analysis of a Sacra Conversazione after Quentin Metsys Marine Perrin and Elodie De Zutter present the results of the technical and art historical study carried out by the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) on the Triptych with Madonna and Child and Musician Angels, Saint Catherine and Saint Barbara from the Adornes collection, a non-profit organisation in Bruges. The study of the scientific documentation (UV, XR, IRR) yields new information on the underdrawing and painting technique. The study reveals that the painting is a collaboration between two separately trained artists that might have worked in the same workshop. The iconographical and stylistic analysis suggests a close relationship with the work of Quentin Metsys, active in Antwerp between 1491 and 1530. Several compositions by this great master clearly served as models for the triptych. In the light of the study, the authors were able to formulate hypotheses on the origin and dating of the triptych.
