The BISHOPS project developed a federal research infrastructure for the long‑term preservation, management, and reuse of digital data in the social sciences and digital humanities.
Building on the SODA initiative, it established the national Dataverse‑based service SODHA, supported by technical, legal, and organizational frameworks.
The project aligned metadata standards, ensured GDPR‑compliant data handling, and integrated Belgian efforts with European research infrastructures such as CESSDA, DARIAH, and EOSC. It delivered secure data transfer, long‑term preservation, and open or controlled access for researchers. Extensive documentation, training materials, and outreach activities were created to support adoption and build user capacity. BISHOPS laid the foundations for sustainable continuation through follow‑up initiatives such as the DAMAR project and integration into the emerging FedOSC framework.
