A method is described for the computation of the refractive index ‘n’ for radio waves using meteorological data. This index is given by formula (1). Normally the refractivity ‘N’ (formula 2) is used. Introduction of the relative humidity with respect to water leads to formula (4) in which A1 and B1 are functions of temperature. A1 is tabulated from 60°C to -100°C and B1 from 60 °C to -50°C. When the relative humidity is defined with respect to ice the refractivity is given by formula (5), in which A1 and B2 are functions of the temperature. B2 is tabulated from 0°C to -50°C.
