The potential evapotranspiration of a natural surface is obtained by estimating the evaporation from a free water surface by the Penman formula and applying a transfer factor, the value of which is calculated by means of an analytical expression evolved from an earlier study. In the present paper it is demonstrated that the radiation balance, variable involved in the Penman formula, must be established over the daylight period and not over 24 hours. The parameters of the equations for the wind function and for the terrestrial surface radiation balance are furthermore revised. The repercussion of this new procedure and of there adjustment of the parameters is analyzed next.
