In this paper we verify synoptically the tropicality field at 1000 hPa against the position of surface fronts and air mass areas. The verification period ranges from analysis up to the 4th day of the forecast (D- D+4). At the surface a good correlation appears between the position of frontal systems and confluence areas. Mainly over the Atlantic Ocean and during the first two days of the forecast. The localization of air masses delineated by the confluence areas, corresponds well to the position of cloud fields on satellite pictures. However, tropicality does not allow in most cases tot detect complex frontal activity.In deze publicatie wordt het tropicaliteitsveld op 1000 uPa synoptisch vergeleken met de positieve van frontale systemen en het voorkomen van luchtmassa’s. Dit zowel wat de analyse (D°, als de vooruitzichten tot de vierde dag (D+4) betreft. Gedurende de eerste twee dagen van de vooruitzichten bestaat er een goede correlatie tussen de positie van frontale systemen en deze van confluentie-zones, vooral boven de Atlantische Oceaan. De positie van luchtmassa’s die door confluentie-zones van elkaar gescheiden worden, stemt goed overeen met deze van de wolkenvelden op satellietbeelden. In de meeste gevallen laat de tropicaliteit echter nier toe complexe frontale activiteit te detecteren.
